Arada donates to Sharjah’s ‘Salam Beirut’ initiative and organises 65 tonnes of food relief for Lebanon

Arada has announced a humanitarian support package for the people of Beirut, as a result of the devastating explosion that took place in the Lebanese capital’s port recently. Following the call from HH Sheikha Jawaher bint Mohammed Al Qasimi, Wife of The Ruler of Sharjah, Arada has a made a cash donation to the ‘Salam Beirut’ initiative, which is aimed at providing medical aid, food and water supplies to victims of the catastrophe.

The Salam Beirut initiative is being organised by The Big Heart Foundation (TBHF), which is mobilising on-ground relief support in Beirut and assessing how best to provide assistance. Arada’s AED500,000 cash donation to TBHF will go towards rehabilitation support, which will include rubble removal, as well as offering solutions to boost vital services like electricity, sanitation and carpentry maintenance.

The second plank of Arada’s support package involves the transport of 65 tonnes of food to Beirut, in partnership with Sharjah Cooperative Society and Emirates Red Crescent. In total, 2,000 ‘Hope Donation’ boxes containing a wide range of essential food items such as rice, flour, pasta, tinned vegetables and sugar have been prepared and shipped to Lebanon. Altogether, the boxes contain 54,000 food items.

HE Sheikh Sultan bin Ahmed Al Qasimi, Chairman of Arada, said: “We have a collective responsibility to do everything we can to support the Lebanese people during this terrible time. We must also remember that the effects of this tragedy will be felt for a long time to come, so it is incumbent on both organisations and individuals to continue supporting The Big Heart Foundation’s Salam Beirut initiative over the coming months.

“In addition, I am also grateful to Sharjah Cooperative Society and Emirates Red Crescent for their support, which has enabled us to get vital supplies to the people of Beirut as rapidly as possible.”

Abdullah Al Muhairi, Manager at Emirates Red Crescent Authority in Sharjah, said: “The UAE has once again shown its dedication to supporting humanitarian causes during this crisis, with a number of sectors of society stepping up to contribute. It is encouraging to see organisations such as Arada play a leading role in bringing aid to the Lebanese people, and we hope that the company’s efforts are replicated by others within the UAE.”
