News: 8 December 2019

Arada’s Design Director – Master Planning, Deema Aburizik, has taken part in a panel discussion during one of the region’s largest annual industry events, The Big 5 International Building & Construction Show.

The panel discussion was entitled ‘The contribution of urban design and landscape architecture to residents’ happiness’, and was part of the Urban Design & Landscape Expo, one of a number of events taking place during The Big 5 week.

During the discussion, Deema highlighted how strong master plan design can help to improve wellbeing, positivity and encourage active living.

She cited the design of Aljada, Sharjah’s largest residential project, where walkability has been a key theme within the overall layout of the master plan, and where Arada is also working to incorporate green landscaping into several areas of the city.

Deema also discussed the importance of sustainability and smart technology, both of which are central themes in the Aljada master plan.

Other speakers on the panel included Dr Jerry Kolo, a professor at American University of Sharjah, Ian Rose, Associate Landscape Architect at Cracknell and Haism El Masir, Urban Planning Engineer at Abu Dhabi Housing Authority.

The panel was moderated by Farah Naz, Sustainability Team Leader at BuroHappold Engineering.

The Big 5 took place this year between 25-28 November at the Dubai World Trade Centre. An estimated 68,000 visitors attended the show, alongside more than 2,500 exhibitors from 66 countries.
