American University of Sharjah students tour Aljada jobsite

A group of students from the American University of Sharjah (AUS) have become the first members of the public to review progress at Sharjah’s largest lifestyle megaproject, Aljada.
The students from AUS’ College of Art, Architecture and Design (CAAD) are taking part in a joint initiative between one of the Arab world’s most respected educational institutions and Arada, the developer behind Aljada.
The partnership is currently giving CAAD students the opportunity to design a pavilion in Aljada’s Central Hub, the focal area of the 24 million square foot project, the master plan for which has been designed by Zaha Hadid Architects.
The 10 students on the tour were accompanied by Associate Professor Jason Carlow, who is coordinating the partnership with Arada. Elie Mrad, Arada’s Head of Architecture and Design, conducted the tour, showing the AUS team the site office and the Aljada Sales Centre, which is on track to be completed in September this year.
The Aljada pavilion will be completed later this year, providing the AUS students with a unique opportunity to engage in a design project from concept to completion. It will also offer students an invaluable learning experience into various areas of architectural practice, including design development, coordination with consultants, project management and contract administration during the construction process.
Unveiled in September 2017 by HH Sheikh Dr Sultan bin Muhammad Al Qasimi, Supreme Council Member and Ruler of Sharjah, Aljada is the Emirate’s largest mixed-use megaproject. The masterplan is carefully designed with walkability and wide green spaces in mind, allowing residents, workers and visitors the ability to live, work, play and be entertained within a fully integrated and sustainable community. Construction on Aljada began in April 2018, and the entire project is scheduled for completion in 2025.
